Transition North Cornwall presents

ENERGY BEYOND OIL

A talk and presentation by author and energy expert Paul Mobbs

7.00 - 9.00pm
Tuesday 28 October 2008
The Town Hall, Launceston, Cornwall, PL15 7AR

£3.00 voluntary donation

This talk will explain the causes and consequences of the urgent energy crisis we are all facing now and in the coming years and to answers to questions such as:

Why is fuel, energy and food so expensive?
How much energy will have available in the future?
How will we heat our houses and how will we travel?
When will it all happen and how will it affect you & me?
What can we do about it, individually and as local communities?

Paul Mobbs is an independent consultant, excellent and entertaining speaker, researcher and writer on energy, environment and low impact technology. 'Energy Beyond Oil' is a very good guide to the issues of energy consumption in the UK, climate change, peak oil and resource depletion, based on Paul's book of the same name. Paul will outline the scale and complexity of the problems we face, globally as well as within our local communities, as the human species reaches the limits of the Earth's environmental capacity. He will also outline some of the possible actions that you can take to protect yourself and your family from the approaching crisis.

There will be time for discussion/ questions and answer session.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity. It may change your life!

Transition is all about people themselves starting the move within their community to achieve more sustainable living.  Because it's a bottom-up initiative, it means we don't have the resources to advertise what we're doing widely in the media.  In any case, that isn't perhaps the best way for us to tell others about what we're trying to achieve.  Since it's people at the grass roots stimulating change, then the best way for us to encourage others to join us is by word of mouth, or even word of email!

...in Hessenford, but there is a stunning little local band called Wurlitza based in St.Germans. They played at the Rod'n'Line on Saturday 3rd May and I was bowled over. A wonderful combination of originals and an eclectic selection of covers performed with confidence and verve.

Renewable energy evening 11th April PDF Print E-mail

This event went very well with turn out of 30 including some new faces.   A great thank you to Jim , William and Neil who talked us through the whole gamet of sustainable energy options for communities and households which stimulated an interesting debate at the end of the evening about what might be possible in Liskeard and the surrounding areas.

There was a definite move from the people at the meeting towards more action and we agreed that a response to the Liskeard Town Plan consultation from the transition group was a good next step in the short term.

A response will has been drafted by Bill with input of the group.

The other action discussed was for liskeard residents to lobby Caradon  about the type of heating systems proposed for the extra care centre to be built on the Passmore Edwards Hospital site.

Finally the future BIG PLANS ...... Neil's inspired talk on community energy projects linked to the soon to launch New Cornwall Community Energy company (or whatever it gets called !)  showed how the funding and the will to make community based energy projects work. If any local groups can think of suitable community/ public buildings or opportunities for community led energy projects then get your group to contact Community Energy Plus and  help make it happen.
